The cognitive shuffle is a researched sleep-onset technique: you picture a stream of random, unrelated, harmless things, one after another. The randomness stops your mind from building the anxious story that keeps you awake — and gently mimics what your brain does as it drifts off. This is the free, no-app version: press Begin and start.

  1. Lie down comfortably and dim your screen.
  2. Press Begin. A new neutral word appears every few seconds.
  3. Spend a moment gently picturing each one. Don't force it.
  4. Turn on the voice if you'd rather keep your eyes closed.
